Bettman says NHL would not take an application from Seattle

Bettman, 63, will remain at the helm of the National Hockey League into 2022 after signing a seven-year contract extension, according to TSN The Reporters’ Michael Farber.

The NHL Commissioner said that an executive committee will eventually suggest whether the league should add two teams, one or none, the Times reported.

Bettman said the decision by the executive committee, which will come in the form of a recommendation to the larger board, could still be months away.

“Don has brought stability and strength to the union, and that’s a good thing”, Bettman said. Bettman said that couldn’t be further from the truth, and in fact at this point the National Hockey League will not allow another city into the current expansion process, which includes Las Vegas and Quebec City as the applicants.

“We’re going through the process and we’re doing it in an orderly fashion”.

Daly, during a media scrum after Bettman’s news conference, was also asked about the league’s investigation of Patrick Kane for last summer’s alleged sexual assault in his hometown of Buffalo.

“This happened many, many months ago, Bettman said”. “There are a lot of things to be considered”. A message seeking comment was left for Michelle Kersch, spokeswoman for the Bill Foley’s Black Knight Sports & Entertainment in Las Vegas.

Bettman also said that the Canadian dollar, which has been on a steady decline for the past year, is not a factor at this point for the Quebec City bid.

The Quebec Nordiques moved to Denver in 1995, becoming the Colorado Avalanche. Hansen and Los Angeles businessman Victor Coleman have tried to come to an agreement on how to make an NHL-first package work in order to get a shovel in the ground to begin building a facility.

Bettman’s biggest project over the next few years: more expansion.

“There’s never been any 60-minute game here where the clock’s going to run out”. “I’ve said the earliest we can make it is for 2017-18”.

The news comes at a time when the league is under public scruinity for the handling of the NHL All-Star fan voting and trying to remove John Scott, who was named Pacific Division team captain, from the game.

“We haven’t effectuated a particular rule change”, Bettman said.
