NH poll: Trump on top, Rubio in second

The Democratic side of the Iowa caucus was not surprising to me in the least.

Trump latched onto it as a reason to invalidate Cruz’s victory over him in Iowa.

“It’s strategic on his part and he’s also trying to make sure that he takes some of the wind out of Cruz and Rubio’s sails as he goes into New Hampshire, where he has been leading for some time to make sure he comes out ahead in New Hampshire”, she added. “They are a bunch of dishonest cookies, I want to tell you”.

The back-and-forth between two candidates who once made of a show of their rapport underscored the shifting dynamic in a Republican race rattled by the Iowa results.

The one thing surely is that, while there will be a scramble this coming week in New Hampshire, attention will rapidly and briefly swing to the Nevada caucuses and SC primary before focusing on the 15 states participating in the SEC primary on March 1.

But Mr Trump turned this afternoon, accusing Mr Cruz of lying to and defrauding voters.

In the new poll, the share who say they expect Trump to win the primary on February 9 has declined a bit since before the Iowa caucuses, dropping from 66% in the pre-caucus survey to 61% now, though he’s still the odds-on favorite among likely voters in New Hampshire.

By default, establishment hopes have shifted to Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, he has visited the state fewer times.

“I think right after New Hampshire votes you will see a whole bunch of people calling it a day”. “We can not win if we are divided against each other”.

Rounding out the Republican field are retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 11%; former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Sen.

President Barack Obama visited a mosque near Baltimore on Wednesday, declaring that attacks on Islam were an attack on all faiths in a move to counter rhetoric from Trump and other Republican candidates that have alienated Muslims.

“I think in retrospect we should’ve had a better ground game, I would’ve funded a better ground game”, he continued. “His only effort was for an amnesty bill”, Christie said.

The long-crowded field continued to shrink. The Kentucky senator had tried to improve the GOP’s popularity among younger voters and minorities. But his appeal never broadened much beyond the small group of libertarian-leaning Republicans who backed the previous White House bids of his father, Rep. Ron Paul.

“During primetime of the Iowa Caucus, Cruz put out a release that @RealBenCarson was quitting the race, and to caucus (or vote) for Cruz”, Trump tweeted.

Cruz won the Iowa caucuses with 28% of the vote, while Trump came in second place with 24%.

Carson’s campaign accused Cruz of playing “dirty tricks” on the night of the caucuses.
