The Friday morning commute could be hampered by snow, the National Weather Service said.

Gov. Dannel Malloy advised residents to use caution during the morning commute. “Our equipment is prepped and trucks are loaded with product to address any and all situations that may arise”. This is a problem as it is collecting on trees and power lines, which could create some downed limbs and outages. Temperatures will remain between 32 and 35 degrees, she said. “Anyone on the roadways during these times should be prepared to encounter slick road conditions”. “The snow may mix with or change to rain”.

Snow totals for Long Island range from 3 to 6 inches in Nassau County to 4 to 8 inches for Suffolk, said Matthew Tauber, a meteorologist at the service’s Upton office.

An area of low pressure off the Carolina coast will be strengthening overnight Thursday into Friday morning. It warned of 10- to 20-mph winds with 30-mph gusts, and predicted “hazardous travel due to snow and reduced visibilities”. That pattern should hold for the weekend – mostly sunny skies with highs in the 40s on both Saturday and Sunday. The snow showers will be light and scattered in nature until around sunrise and then quickly come to an end.

By Monday night, the chance of snow showers will extend from the Great Lakes into parts of the Northeast and Southeast, possibly as far south as Atlanta. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
