Major crane collapse reported in NY, at least 2 hurt

A crane has collapsed killing one person and seriously injuring two others in Manhattan Friday, according to the FDNY. Fox 5 News reporter Stacey Delikat says it appears the crane snapped in half. The crane landed across several parked cars, smashing their roofs.

A man at the scene took a video of the scene.

“I just felt it. It felt like a bomb”, one witness said.

Local media reported that some people were trapped inside cars.

The crane is owned by Bay Crane, CBS2 reported.

Eyewitnesses are claiming that the crane collapsed while it was transporting equipment.

A number of streets in lower Manhattan are closed and officials are inspecting a nearby six-story office building, for possible damage.

Due to the collapse, subway trains were skipping the Franklin Street and Chambers Street stations in the area, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said.
