South Africa is not going to be another failed African state under the watch of the EFF‚ he proclaimed.

Arguments at the Constitutional Court on Tuesday will focus on “the supremacy and the validity of the public protector’s report” and on forcing the president to comply with that report, Lewis said.

Even though Zuma has offered to pay back part of the Nkandla fund as suggested by the anti graft watchdog, some opposition leaders told DW that they are unsatisfied with the move.

The slogan “Zuma must pay” is dominating the agenda of the opposition Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) party led by firebrand politician and stark Zuma critic Julius Malema. “We are not going to be party to any settlement which does not speak to those three points”, he added.

The refurbishment of the residence in the village of Nkandla, in Zuma’s home province of KwaZulu-Natal, included a swimming pool which was listed as a “fire-fighting facility” an amphitheater, visitors centre and cattle and chicken areas. “The judges responded, saying that they’re not interested‚ because that is the matter between the parties and won’t get involved”, Malema said.

“In his typical way of trying to control everything and influence judges‚ he took a copy to court”.

“This is not a new approach that has been adopted, the President both in answering questions in Parliament, coupled with his address, has always said he would abide by the process”.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane rejected Zuma’s proposal calling for further and careful scrutiny.

The Public Protector has said no settlement in the Nkandla saga can be reached without the powers of her office being reaffirmed by the highest court in the land.

“They (Guptas) must leave South Africa”.

“We will do to the Guptas what we did to the colonisers”.

Bloem said instead of Zuma’s promise to tackle corruption he allowed it to grow incrementally.

“The New Age newspaper and TV channel ANN7 are banned from our events from now on”.
