The game will be streaming live on CBS’s website, where you’ll be able to watch it from your computer or tablet – just point your browser to CBS Sports and click play to get started. While this may not sound like a plus, Super Bowl commercials are often the most entertaining advertisements you’ll see all year – and if your team isn’t doing well, they may even be the highlight of the show.
As the New York Times reports, Haupt’s biological father Martin taped the inaugural Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Pay Packers on a Quadriplex analog videotaping machine back when the game aired in 1967. Adobe found that 50 percent of Millennials polled watch live sports on smart TVs, mobile devices or gaming consoles.
Now, the National Football League and CBS (which owns CNET), are taking their cues from movies and video games to appeal to the estimated 110 million people who will watch Newton’s Panthers take on the Denver Broncos this weekend.
The NFL struggled to draw fans to the first Super Bowl, let alone encourage interaction before the big day. The ad agency says Super Bowl ad spending on Facebook jumped 15% in 2014 and 16% in 2015 compared to the previous Sunday. The Chargers played in the AFC title game twice with Fouts, but lost to Oakland (1980 season) and Cincinnati (1981). “One is the game itself and the other is the series of commercials”.
To compare that to about a decade ago, 30 seconds to feature a product during the 2007 Super Bowl cost about $2.38 million.
The Super Bowl has always been on a Sunday, usually the last Sunday in January. In 2016, TV advertisers, with much smaller budgets, will retain the attention of viewers by delivering their brand in a shorter, more rapid-fire format. Millennials are two times more likely to use their smartphone for an unrelated activity during the game (such as web surfing or social media) than those ages 35 and older. Since being released earlier this week, it’s already getting raves as one of the cutest Super Bowl spots.

Or imagine watching Newton, one of the most versatile QBs in the game, from so low on the ground that you watch him dive over the goal line. The NFL Foundation has invested $1 million toward the campaign. Smirk says television is the main culprit, especially host network CBS, the ubiquitous ESPN and, of course, NFL Network.
