Yesterday the NHS said people who had travelled to countries affected by the Zika outbreak had been barred from giving blood for a month after they returned home.
Officials said the woman is now under medical supervision and is in stable condition. World Health Organization also warned European nations that the risk of the virus spreading to the continent increases with the onset of spring and summer.
– The DC Department of Health has confirmed three cases of Zika virus in Washington, including one case in a pregnant woman.
Most people who are infected with Zika virus have no symptoms, or experience only a mild illness.
As it stands, there have been 11 confirmed Zika virus cases in NY, according to the state Department of Health.
Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency in four counties where nine residents have been diagnosed with the Zika virus. The Department of Health declined to specify the gender of the newly infected adult, other than to say it wasn’t a pregnant woman.
The CDC website now lists 30 countries and territories where active Zika virus transmission is taking place.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stressed that the Zika (ZEE’-kuh) virus is still mainly spread by mosquito bites.
Brazilian scientists say they have found Zika in the saliva and urine of two patients, as United States health officials advised more stringent measures for monitoring pregnant women for Zika and preventing sexual transmission of the virus.
Those precautions should also be considered by couples who may be starting a family if the man has potentially been exposed to the virus. Babies born to mothers with the virus can have birth defects.
Colombia is one of around 30 countries and territories, mainly in South America as well as the Caribbean, which have been affected so far.
