Donald Trump: Ted Cruz stole Iowa caucuses through ‘fraud’

US Republican Rand Paul has suspended his 2016 presidential bid after his small-government campaign failed to gain traction with voters.

Trump, echoing accusations he made earlier on Wednesday in a series of tweets, called Cruz’s action “total voter fraud”.

Ted Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated. Bad!

In an interview on Boston Herald Radio on Wednesday, Trump criticized the Cruz campaign for spreading a CNN report saying Ben Carson would not travel to New Hampshire and SC after the Iowa caucuses, suggesting Carson was getting out of the race. Mr Cruz later apologised for the email. Cruz’s campaign asked supporters to share that news with Carson fans before they cast ballots.

He concluded by calling for a redo of the caucuses or for Cruz’s win to be ruled invalid.

Officials from the Iowa Republican Party did not respond immediately to questions about their process for handling complaints like Trump’s.

The Senator from Florida, Rubio came a close third in Iowa surprising many with his performance. Trump added that Cruz’s representatives also told people that the NY billionaire supported the Affordable Care Act, colloquially known as Obamacare. “Sen. Cruz told me that he was not aware of that when I talked to him, and that he did not agree with that kind of thing”.

The Texas senator ultimately won the caucuses despite the fact that Trump had been leading polls for weeks before the voting started. “I think what he did is disgusting”. It’s true that Trump under-performed polls, and if there’s a surprise challenge arising from Iowa, it’s Marco Rubio’s stronger-than-expected finish, but for Trumpians looking for comfort beyond Microsoft conspiracy theories, history has some hope for them.

Having faced a shock defeat in Iowa, controversial Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has said his decision to skip the Fox News debate just ahead of the crucial caucuses may have cost him.

One of those rivals, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, continued his attacks on both Rubio and Trump, with help from his mother, former first lady Barbara Bush. The fight for second place between Cruz, Rubio and Kasich remains within the survey’s margin of sampling error.
