“CDC has issued new interim guidance on preventing sexual transmission of Zika virus after confirming through laboratory testing… the first case of Zika virus infection in a non-traveler in the continental United States during this outbreak”, the CDC said.
Colombia is one of around 30 countries and territories, mainly in South America as well as the Caribbean, which have been affected so far.
The latest case marks the second time the virus has ever been recorded in Western Australia, ABC news reports. The mosquito is a vector for the proliferation of the Zika virus now spreading throughout Latin America.
In Britain, the National Health Service Blood and Transplant agency has said that from Thursday, anyone returning from Zika-affected countries will be made to wait 28 days before being allowed to donate blood, as a “precautionary measure”.
Local health officials said yesterday both those people have fully recovered from the virus.
Brazil’s top research institute said Friday that Zika has been detected in urine and saliva, but added that there is no proof the virus can be transmitted through those fluids.
– The DC Department of Health has confirmed three cases of Zika virus in Washington, including one case in a pregnant woman.
The White House says the two countries will share epidemiological information and specimen samples in hopes of better evaluating the potential link between Zika and birth defects.
