4 more patients with Zika virus symptoms tested in Dallas County

In Britain, the National Health Service Blood and Transplant agency has said that from Thursday, anyone returning from Zika-affected countries will be made to wait 28 days before being allowed to donate blood, as a “precautionary measure”.

Local health officials said yesterday both those people have fully recovered from the virus.

Brazil’s top research institute said Friday that Zika has been detected in urine and saliva, but added that there is no proof the virus can be transmitted through those fluids.

– The DC Department of Health has confirmed three cases of Zika virus in Washington, including one case in a pregnant woman.

The White House says the two countries will share epidemiological information and specimen samples in hopes of better evaluating the potential link between Zika and birth defects.

But it doesn’t necessarily mean you can get sick from contact with an infected person’s saliva or urine, said CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

In addition to microcephaly, Zika is also believed to be linked to a neurological disorder called Guillain-Barre syndrome.

In Dallas, the CDC said, “there was no risk to a developing fetus”.

New figures from Brazil’s Health Ministry show that the Zika virus outbreak has not caused as many confirmed cases of a rare brain defect as first feared.
