The company had recently announced the recall of more than 2.2 million vehicles in the US for faulty air bags by another supplier, Takata.

Honda Motor Co said it is recalling 341,000 Accord models from 2008-2010 to replace control units linked to failures in Continental systems.

The latest Honda recall consists of the 2005-2012 Acura RL, the 2007-2011 Honda CR-V and 2007-2016 Acura RDX.

This is the latest massive USA recall related to air bag problems.

Continental Automotive Systems has admitted to installing potentially faulty airbag control computers in about 5 million cars.

The NHTSA said tens of millions of other vehicles with Takata airbags will likely need to be recalled eventually.

Honda will install new inflators in the affected pickups for free, but the automaker says parts won’t be available until summer because of the number of vehicles involved.

Honda said the most up-to-date consumer information about the recalls can be obtained at www.recalls.honda.com and www.recalls.acura.com, or by calling 888-234-2138. So far, it has already documented 25 cases of accidental air bag deployments.

In the statement, Honda said it has received no reports of a ruptured “PSDI-5” inflator in any Honda or Acura vehicle worldwide.

Automotive supplier Continental will initiate a recall action to replace airbag control units for approximately five million vehicles in the USA alone.

More than 20 million cars have been recalled because of the risk of violent airbag explosions. Nine deaths in the USA have been tied to the exploding airbags, as well as numerous serious injuries. In total, 112,001 FCA vehicles and Volkswagen Routans are affected. Honda also issued a recall for an additional 2.2 million Honda and Acura cars that were outfitted with Takata airbags, as in the ones that have a proclivity for exploding and hurling potentially lethal batches of shrapnel at drivers.

The memo also included a warning: auto dealerships would be responsible for any claims stemming from selling an unrepaired vehicle from the affected population.

Takata is preparing to present a restructuring plan to automakers in early May that will include an agreement on the sharing of recall costs, people familiar with the matter said this week.

Honda spokeswoman Yuka Abe would not say where the other recalls will be.

A spokesperson for Honda (UK) said: “In accordance with standard national guidelines in the event of recall activity, Honda will contact all affected customers in the coming weeks”.
