Forecasters with the National Weather Service are predicting a possibility of snow on Sunday, with some areas accumulating 1 inch or more of the cold, white fluff.

Earlier Friday, MassDOT Highway Administration Thomas Tinlin warned commuters that the rainy scene they saw outside their homes would change into a more challenging storm with heavy, wet snow and temperatures dropping on the highways.
Later on Friday when the snowfall increases, Judge said the concerns will focus on the power grids and whether the heavy snow starts knocking down wires and trees.
A 6-year-old girl was hit by a tree limb that fell in her backyard in Canton, Massachusetts, and later died, according to family members.
The snow didn’t stop presidential candidates from campaigning in New Hampshire, just four days away from its first-in-the-nation primary.
The western corner of the state is expected to see about 1-3 inches of snow, while the rest of the state will see 3-5 or 3-6 inches, Amarante said. Every public school in Rhode Island was closed except for the lone school on Block Island, which was expected to get much less snow than the mainland.
Most local school districts announced early Friday morning classes were canceled.
She says because the island typically gets less snow, they’re able to manage it more easily. What this means is that we are going to continue to see a heavy, wet snow accumulating this morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Rhode Island starting Thursday night and lasting into Friday afternoon. Several police departments across the state reported downed trees and power lines as the storm intensified through the morning and into the afternoon. It forecasts accumulation of 4 to 8 inches in those areas, with the highest totals near Interstate 95.
