Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to unite for musical comedy

Following a heated bidding war, Universal has snatched up rights for a new, as-yet-untitled musical comedy, with The Hollywood Reporter learning that the studio has already cast two prominent stars in Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Hail, Caesar! star Channing Tatum. Details are scant, but the film is said to be an R-rated adventure about two pilots. The project will be produced by Marc Platt, who is responsible for bringing the smash hit Wicked to Broadway.

Gordon-Levitt also developed Hitrecord.org, which helps people collaborate on creative projects.

It’s also being penned by 21 Jump Street writer Michael Bacall.

The 34-year-old has been dying to do a movie musical with Channing Tatum, and it looks like it’s actually going to happen this time!

In fact, he and the 500 Days of Summer alum were the ones who pitched the idea to Universal!

Channing is famous for his dance moves, having starred in the original 2006 film Step Up and showing off some more raunchy moves in Magic Mike and its sequel. The actor, who showed his range with the recent comedy The Night Before and the true life drama The Walk, is now developing a big-screen take of 1980s musical puppet series Fraggle Rock at New Regency.
