Evo expands fighting game championships for 2016

But the biggest news here is likely the complete replacement of Street Fighter IV’s latest incarnation with Street Fighter V given that there’s two versions of Smash present.

The organisers of Evo, the largest fighting game tournament in the world, have announced the tournament line-up, which includes Street Fighter V.

What is particularly interesting is the organizer’s decision to cut “USF4” from its lineup, seeing as the game drew thousands of participants in the previous years’ tournaments. But this year marks a big transition, as it’s finally time to make the leap to Street Fighter V.

In Nintendo’s corner, the Bandai Namco Entertainment-developed title will be accompanied by Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. With Capcom’s plan for Street Fighter 5 DLC, hopefully they will continue to expand the game so that it can achieve the same level of hype as Ultra Street Fighter 4.

The full lineup of nine fighting games were revealed for this year’s installment of the annual Evolution Championship Series. That means new characters and more improvements to the game. Melee, Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear Xrd, Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat X, Killer Instinct and Tekken 7 as the games that will be played at the event. Seeing as there are countless “Pokemon” fans around the world, it would not be a surprise if the game draws a lot of participants in this year’s Evo. The rest of the 2016 lineup are newcomers to the tournament stage while Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and Street Fighter IV are shelved this year.
