Governor Rick Snyder’s office put out a written statement saying Shekter-Smith was “officially terminated” Friday. For months, residents complained about the taste, smell and appearance of the water, but officials told them the water was safe.
Snyder, who has apologized numerous times for lax monitoring and oversight that led to the increased lead in Flint’s drinking water, has fended off calls to resign – and even heckling at events and restaurants with his family.
“You have to see Flint”, he told reporters.
The DEQ “didn’t think there was a lot of base for it if you look at the e-mail. Meet people here. Get a flavor for the types of creativity that’s happening”.
Aesthetics? A General Motors factory in Flint had to quit using the water because it was corroding metal engine parts, and a hospital quit because the water was damaging its medical instruments.
Sen. Curtis Hertel Jr., D-East Lansing, said while a $28 million supplemental budget law approved last week for Flint has some nutrition funding, more is needed because certain foods can help prevent lead poisoning.
“They didn’t teach me this stuff in seminary”, Odette said. In addition to that damaging information, we just learned that the office for State employees in Flint had special water coolers installed in January 2015 so staff did not have to drink the Flint River water. He said they asked for more information but none was forthcoming, so they didn’t pursue the matter. In an infograph promoted by the Michigan GOP, the Obama administration is accused of not doing enough to fix the problem in Flint, while elaborating the alleged positive work Snyder has done.
Flint will receive visits Saturday from Democratic U.S. House members and Sunday from presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who has criticized Snyder for what happened in Flint.
Hollins said he heard nothing more about the issue until late December when local officials in Flint revealed the outbreak had recurred.
