This sub-4 meter SUV will be available in six trim levels – LDi, LDi (O), VDi, VDi (O), ZDi and ZDi+ – all of them will be powered by the Ciaz’s 1.3-litre, 89bhp, diesel engine.

On the first day of the biennial event, 29 firms launched new models in which over 10 automakers, including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai, Jeep and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) launched high-end sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and luxury cars.

Maruti Suzuki officials at the launch of the Baleno RS concept vehicle at Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida on Thursday.

Maruti Suzuki India CEO and managing director Kenichi Ayukawa said: “Built on a global Suzuki platform, Vitara Brezza has been conceptualized, designed and developed in India using Suzuki’s global development processes”. Ignis will sit below the vitara brezza and will take on the likes of Mahindra KUV 100. The Vitara Brezza is possibly one of the most important cars for Maruti Suzuki this year.

The company said the Tucson represents a significant step forward in the future SUV line-up for the Indian automobile market. The aim is to promote the replacement of old vehicles with modern ones which are fuel efficient as well as better emission standards. A 5-Speed manual gearbox is part of this engine. The Baleno RS is claimed to deliver high performance, and an exhilarating drive.

With polluting cars in the frame, electric and hybrid vehicles – still a niche market in India – also made a strong showing at the expo, with Toyota Motor Corp saying inquiries about its Camry hybrid doubled in January.
