Donald Trump consolidates his lead in New Hampshire

Trump tweeted Wednesday morning that “either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified” in Iowa because of “fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz”, suggesting Cruz’s campaign misled voters.

The vote between Clinton and Sanders was so close that the victor from Monday night’s voting was not declared by the Iowa Democratic Party until Tuesday afternoon.

Whether or not Trump’s loss and the successes of Cruz and Rubio in Iowa will effect the outcome in the Granite State remains to be seen. “You know, ultimately I think it goes back to what I said before – and that is [Cruz’s] willingness to say or do anything, in this case, spread a false rumor about Ben Carson”. “But I won’t say that…it’s too controversial…it’s not politically correct”, said the businessman.

“And finally, Cruz strongly told thousands of caucusgoers (voters) that Trump was strongly in favour of ObamaCare and “choice” – a total lie!” he said.

The email also encouraged to “inform any Carson caucus goers of this news and urge them to caucus for Cruz”.

A second hiccup, at the New Hampshire primary next Tuesday, would spell political disaster for the billionaire.

In the Republican race, the libertarian-leaning Paul finished in fifth place in Iowa with 4.5 per cent of the vote. Tim Tighe, 21-year-old student from New York, was wearing an I Love New York t-shirt, and said he had come out in protest of Mr Cruz’s comments that Donald Trump had “New York values”.

“Ted Cruz didn’t win Iowa, he stole it”, Trump tweeted on Wednesday. Rubio said he was leaving his fate in the Republican U.S. presidential primary contests in God’s hands, and added that he hoped his children would be proud of him “no matter how this turns out”.

Trump has been leading the Republican polls in New Hampshire, which has historically favored more moderate candidates than Iowa.

Trump had one final message for the people of Iowa.

Cruz’s latest advertisement, where he called himself an “Obama Nemesis” also mentioned Rubio as “The Republican Barack Obama”, the publication said.

The poll found the most support for Rubio in a theoretical three-man race for the nomination, with 34% picking the Florida senator compared with 33% for Trump and 25% for Cruz. Ben Carson qualifies under the third criterion, but it’s unclear whether he will participate, as he plans to skip New Hampshire to focus on campaigning in SC.
