Johnson, Nets have season-best night in beating Kings
George Karl clearly isn’t the long-term coach of the Kings, but should Sacramento really fire another coach mid-way through the season? And yet, as the world still turns, the sun still sets, and the Nets’ second unit still plays defense at a subpar level, Brooklyn blew it as Cousins, much like he did in their November matchup, took over.

Joe Johnson had season highs with 27 points and 11 assists, and the Brooklyn Nets had their best offensive performance of the season in beating the Sacramento Kings 128-119 on Friday night. That’s part of it. There’s going to be games like that.
“Coach. And the style of play, ” Rondo said of what would influence his next signing. “An overreaction to the loss” was how one league source involved in the conversations on Karl’s job status described the organization’s response late Friday night. In total, they’ve won eight of their last 10 games against the Sixers.

Cons: George Karl isn’t the long-term coach of this team, but the Kings aren’t a move away from being a good team. Three more months of Karl isn’t going to cause any irreparable damage, and it at least lets the organization show some semblance of patience.
Karl admitted it’s not easy to coach a point guard like Rondo, who a Celtics insider told ESPN’s Baxter Holmes a year ago “always thinks he’s the smartest person in the room, even if he isn’t”. “That can’t be the excuse every night”.
They travel to Boston to take on a red hot Celtics team led by first-time all-star and former King Isaiah Thomas. “We’ve got to find some other guys to join the fray”, said interim coach Tony Brown, who fell to 2-11 since replacing the fired Lionel Hollins on January 10. “We’re going to work it out as a team, and hopefully we can fix this”. But the Kings are now 3 1/2 games behind the Utah Jazz for the final playoff spot. When it was pointed out that Karl had been hired after the All-Star break last season, Jackson said, “It can be post All-Star break that he can leave too”.
This year in the National Basketball Association, the teams in California have been getting a ton of media attention – whether it be Kobe’s retirement, Blake Griffin’s questionable off-court antics, or the Warriors’ historically good season.

The team’s star player, DeMarcus Cousins, seemed to indicate that not all was well in the dressing room in his comments to reporters after the game. Three of those losses occurred on the road, increasing the significance of a four-game trek where the Kings will face the East’s two worst teams in Brooklyn (12-38) and Philadelphia.
