Celine Dion felt protected by Rene

Caesars Palace will host a memorial for Angélil, the husband and manager of Celine Dion credited with launching her career and long-standing residency on the Las Vegas Strip. The service was live broadcast over the Internet so fans all over the world could watch. Angelil died last month at the age of 73 after battling throat cancer.

Celine Dion said her husband kept her grounded and protected her from the gritty business details of her superstar career.

The heartfelt memorial service brought out a lot of emotions, as Dion shared her thoughts with the crowd.

It read: “My family and I are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from so many people who have touched our lives during these past few days”.

“René never hated anyone”.

Born in Montreal to a Canadian mother and Syrian father, Angelil was a former singer-turned-manager who discovered a 12-year-old Dion and mortgaged his house to finance her first album. Dion claimed her husband of 21 years was coming through to her via the audience members, stating that she could feel the love he had for her shining through each of them. Dion also posted a photo on her Facebook page regarding the ceremony, and the photo has so far gotten more than half a million “likes”.

The statement was concluded with Celine’s name, as well as her sons with Rene – 15-year-old Rene-Charles and five-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson, and his three children from previous relationships.

While her shows are not scheduled to return until February 23, Celine will apparently return to the venue on Wednesday night for an event to honor her late husband’s life.
