Trump had abandoned the debate after demanding that the network remove Fox elf queen Megyn Kelly from the moderator lineup, claiming that she would treat him unfairly, and the network responded with a tongue-in-cheek statement pointing out that Vladimir Putin would also treat him unfairly-a message meant, the network said later, to “prevent [Kelly] from being smeared any further”.

Donald Trump may have chosen to skip the last GOP debate before the Iowa caucuses, but he was mentioned at the very top of the debate when moderator Megyn Kelly said it was time to “address the elephant not in the room tonight”.
“Ted Cruz is an anchor baby in Canada, but Canada doesn’t accept anchor babies….” Even though he wasn’t on the stage in Des Moines, Iowa, the GOP front-runner grabbed more attention than any of the seven Republican hopefuls who attended the event.

Trump’s use of the term – which describes children born on USA soil to parents who are in the country illegally and is widely considered to be derogatory – marks the latest escalation of his attacks against Cruz in which he highlights the Texas senator’s Canadian birthplace. Trump called Christie “a friend”, yet claimed he has “no chance, no chance, got no chance”.
Dickerson recalled an exchange during the 2012 Republican primary, when Trump accused the GOP candidates in that cycle of lacking courage after they declined to participate in a Newsmax-sponsored debate that he was supposed to moderate.

No one in the TV news business expected Fox to surpass the 25 million mark this time.
Meanwhile, all the other cable news networks were covering Trump’s competing event in Iowa, during which Trump boasted he raised $5 million for veteran’s charities.
