New England gets first serious snowfall of the season
The track of the storm is uncertain, forecasters said, so snow accumulations can go higher if the storm moves inland or lower if it moves over the ocean. Heavy wet snow and strong winds may result in downed tree limbs and possible power outages. Otherwise, the Boston-area transit system that was crippled by last winter’s storms was holding up well, Gov. Charlie Baker said earlier in the day.

Southeastern Massachusetts will bear the brunt of the winter storm in New England with 6-12 inches of snow. Light snow and areas of blowing snow are expected to begin late Sunday afternoon, and wind gusts could reach 45 miles per hour, the weather service reported.
Though not projected to be as significant, Monday’s snowfall follows a winter storm that dropped more than a half-foot of snow across the North Fork and closed schools on Friday.
More snow is headed for the Midcoast, and the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory to be in effect from Monday at 6 a.m.to Tuesday at noon.
Forecasters posted winter storm watches. Light snow showers will still be around Monday night, and even Tuesday morning.
The real depth of snow was restricted to New Jersey, New York City and Long Island, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
“The later you commute, you more you could inconvenienced by snow”, Cameron said. In New York City, a crane being taken down because of windy conditions collapsed during a snow squall, killing one person.

The high temperature Monday is forecast at 49 degrees, but then a cold snap is expected, keeping the air frigid until Thursday, when the mercury is expected to rise again into the mid-40s.
