Gasoline prices falling in DC area

AAA Texas on Thursday reported the average price at the pump statewide has slipped 3 cents this week to settle at $1.58 per gallon.

Nationally, prices fell 5.2 cents per gallon in the last week, to $1.74, GasBuddy said in a statement. Residents face gas prices at the high end of the national average, if only for that reason. Prices across the state varied widely.

Area prices Sunday were 77.7 cents per gallon lower than the same day a year ago and are 43.8 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, the statement said. From January to February, Oregon experienced the third-largest monthly drop in fuel prices in the nation.

“Gasoline prices continue to plunge coast to coast”, said Patrick DeHaan, a GasBuddy petroleum analyst. A glut of gasoline supply and reduced driving demand during the winter months contributed to falling prices, as well as the resolution of “lingering refinery issues” in California, according to AAA Oregon/Idaho. But when oil prices collapse and the pump price goes down, what does the left want? In June 2014, when a barrel of oil cost more than $100, the nationwide average for a gallon of gas spiked to over $3.50, according to AAA reports.
