Guus Hiddink insists the door is not shut on John Terry extending his Chelsea contract.

Terry claimed he was set to depart the London club at the end of the season after the 5-1 win at MK Dons in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, but former Netherlands coach Hiddink wants him at Stamford Bridge.

Hiddink has seen no evidence of a drop in standards from Terry during his month-and-a-half reign, his second interim spell as manager of Chelsea.

“John is entitled to make up his mind, that’s true, given his contract expires at the end of the season”.

‘On the other hand I don’t want to overvalue the attention we are giving it, the club wants to have the dialogue…to have an open door still.

‘It was surprising that he did it. There was no specific decision made. We will have to see what is coming up with the managerial situation. “I want to be out there and be a big part of things if I possibly can”. “He is a fantastic servant of Chelsea Football Club and a superb captain and, as such, the club will keep the channels of dialogue open”, the spokesperson added.

“Normally you feel you are getting a bit slower, and can not accept you’re in a danger zone and more likely to get red cards”.

Terry has announced he is leaving the club he joined at the age of 14 after they opted not to offer him a new contract.

“I respect his formal language and I like the way he is playing and committed to the team”, says Hiddink.

“John’s statistics and the view I have on him is that he is very fit”, said the veteran Dutch boss. Regardless of the situation, he will be very professional and play with all his heart as well.

The England worldwide, a Champions League and Premier League victor with Chelsea since arriving from Bolton in 2012, fears his sudden exile will damage his chances of featuring at Euro 2016 and could force him to take the unwanted step of considering joining a club who can satisfy his desire for first-team action. “He’s one of the key players and has been one of the key players, and is still”. When Remy is fit he is one of us again. That’s all I can say about this.
