Neither trip into Broncos territory resulted in points, but the Denver offense was still unable to take advantage and continued to give Carolina chances to cut into the lead.
The Panthers had 12 penalties, four turnovers and a missed field goal attempt.
Manning was 13 of 23 for 141 yards and one interception.
Fowler is the 43rd former Michigan State player on a Super Bowl roster, and the 41st to see playing time. With 8:18 left in the third quarter, the Broncos took a 16-10 lead after McManus made his third field goal of the game.

In the Broncos Newton is facing the top defense in the National Football League as well as the top pass defense.
