Broncos take a chance, and it pays off with Kubiak
It was a sick Bowlen who talked Elway into returning to the franchise in 2010 as executive vice president for football operations. Sitting in the center of the second row was Annabel Bowlen, wife of owner Pat Bowlen, wearing a tea-length white dress. The elder Elway was an old-school college football coach who moved the family courtesy of his various jobs from the state of Washington to Montana to Southern California and finally to Northern California, where Jack Elway became an accomplished head coach at San Jose State and later Stanford.

Now he’s coaching Super Bowl 50 and functioning in a very different way than he once did.
The 33-year-old Daniels, as a two-time Pro Bowl player in his 10th National Football League season, spoke for his Broncos teammates: “I watched [Elway] as a fan growing up, so I can look at him in that legendary status”.
The Denver Broncos trip to Super Bowl 50 has created some problems for me. However, at this point, criticizing Elway over a few misses in the draft like Montee Ball or Philip Blake seems like nitpicking.
John Elway has proven himself to be right.
The empty stadium was eerily silent, save for a stray helicopter or plane overhead – until 11:30 a.m. Just as Saturday is typically family day in Denver, the Broncos kept with tradition by inviting their traveling party onto the field.
Whatever works. Elway’s approach has produced splendid results for the Broncos since he took over their front office after they finished 4-12 in 2010.
As for whether the Denver defense was one of the best defenses he’s seen, Goodell said: “It would be hard not to argue that”.
When his entire coaching staff checked out ahead of a playoff loss against the Indianapolis Colts, Elway cleaned house, despite that coaching staff’s impressive 49-22 record.
Gary Kubiak led the Denver Broncos to the Super Bowl in his first season as the team’s head coach, validating John Elway’s decision to hire him.
“His competitive spirits flow, whether it’s in the draft room, in free agency”, Kubiak said “He’s always been that way”.
“I have not heard him yell as much”. “I haven’t had those type of conversations with him recently about that”. He’s a tremendous sounding board.
“The highlight of the night was when Mr. Elway held the trophy and said, ‘This one’s for Pat, ‘ ” Miller said.
As a player, John Elway stood next to Pat Bowlen after winning a World Championship. And it was just a true blessing to go out there and get a trophy for him. Now, Elway says it’s experiences like that as a player that have shaped his mentality as an executive. If you knew me, you would know that I always have something to say. I watched him play in all of those Super Bowls. I know there will be the trolls in the comments section of this piece. Joe Ellis, the man who has been running the Broncos in Bowlen’s place, knows Bowlen would be proud of Elway’s success. “He’d really, really love this team”, Ellis said.
“We haven’t talked about anything past Sunday”, said Manning’s brother, Eli.
In the end it was Elway’s Broncos who came away with the victory, and that feeling of “Greatness Anxiety” disappeared.
“You concern yourself about size and matchups and speed and all those combinations”, Elway said.

When Bowlen officially gave complete control of the organization to Ellis in 2014, a teary-eyed Elway referred to the man he’d worked with for with reverence.
