This Sunday, cord cutters around the country will participate in the grandest tradition of the year: trying to figure out how to stream the Super Bowl online. Early on, some Apple TV owners encountered issues with the CBS Sports app. This was fixed fairly quickly, and fans were able to watch most of the game, but this isn’t the first time streaming services have been challenged by major TV events.
It’s time for the most-watched television event of the year. In the United States, it’ll be shown on CBS, for which you’ll need cable; in the UK it’ll be available either on Sky or BBC 2. The 1982 game between the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals was the record holder for more than three decades before it was finally topped by Super Bowl XLIX. It’s clear that the precedent has been set and we’ll be seeing future Superbowls streamed online as well. Super Bowl 50 can be streamed with Roku, Xbox One, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, and Google’s Chromecast.
You can also watch via the NFL Mobile app (iOS / Android), but again, this is strictly limited to Verizon customers. While the majority of fans relies on paid cable subscriptions and actually are excited about this TV-time, an increasing number of users who can not be close to a television screen look out for streaming services. That means you have to use the National Football League app or go90 app to view the game.
You could stream it from your phone or tablet to your TV. While Yahoo is perhaps a bit of a stretch, Verizon Wireless already has mobile streaming rights locked down, and AT&T owns DirecTV, which has the streaming rights to the NFL’s Sunday Ticket package.
The quality of the CBS Sports streaming video was sharp, clear, and never had one second of dropout over a six hour period.
Once the Super Bowl 50 gets underway, Coldplay will lead the halftime show.

“It’s fan activation so we wanted to combine both the on-air and fan activation as the host committee wanted to have an interactive experience in Super Bowl City”, says Patty Power. There are plenty of ways to watch the Super Bowl this year, as well as keeping up with everything heading into the big game, and we have some great apps to help out.
