The Good Wife is coming to an end.
Maybe it was for the game, maybe for the halftime show, maybe even just the commercials…
Don’t miss the final episodes of The Good Wife Sundays at 9/8c on CBS.
Sunday night, obviously, was the Super Bowl.
Entertainment Weekly reported that following the announcement, the network followed up with a press release which have statements from the show’s producers and series lead Julianna Margulies.
In a statement confirming the news, the Kings issued a joint statement saying that the show was “the creative experience of a lifetime”.
In a series of tweets, the creators pointed out that it was always their plan to tell the story of Alicia Florrick over seven seasons, adding that it would be “pretty embarrassing” if the series was cancelled in its fifth season. The idea was for the Kings to leave their mark on seven seasons, which was the number of seasons they had meant to be involved with from the beginning, whether CBS continued the show without them or not.
But People Magazine says that sad fans took to Twitter to lament the end of an era. The was an effort for the episode titles to have a very specific word count. Rumours and speculation had been growing surrounding the future of The Good Wife, and now we finally know that we’ve only got until May with the series.
Asked about a possible “Good Wife” spinoff, she said “nothing’s off the table but there’s nothing formal….”
The seventh season of The Good Wife returns Sunday, February 14. The show’s season 7 finale, which will air on May 8, will serve as the series finale. When pressed if The Good Wife could continue in a spin-off, they were much less definitive. “It was first pitched as perhaps a possibility and started to solidify”, co-creator and co-showrunner Michelle King said. The show always centered around the Alicia character. “I guess what would be appealing is pursuing a different ensemble”.
Hopefully they figure out how to include Matt Czuchry, Christine Baranski, Alan Cumming, and Zach Grenier before it ends – they are still main characters after all!

But after conversations in recent days involving her, CBS, the studio and the Kings, the conclusion was that everybody “really wanted to go all together”, Michelle King said.
