How to make the perfect pancake

Shrove Tuesday, also known as “Pancake Day”, “Mardi Gras”, “Fat Tuesday” or simply Tuesday 9th February 2016… is only around the corner!

Those with a sweeter tooth should skip straight to dessert, where the chefs will be creating a crêpe topped with orange butter sauce and marmalade.

Shrove Tuesday – aka Pancake Day – falls the day before Lent begins, and in the United Kingdom that means supermarkets are ordering in extra lemon juice, recipe websites are full of exciting new twists on a classic, and your Instagram feed is full of photos of delicious-looking pancakes.

Pancakes are now forever associated with Shrove Tuesday as it is a sort of all-in-one way of using up some fatty foods before Lent.

While thin, crepe-like pancakes seem to be the most popular type to make on the occasion, a thicker batter can make a nice change.
