“Allegiant is very pleased to continue growing in Austin with the addition of nonstop service to Memphis”, said Allegiant Travel Company’s Jude Bricker.

Allegiant Air will increase its flights from two to four per week to Las Vegas, where the vacation carrier’s headquarters and main hub are located.

About 45 minutes into the flight, something went wrong on board, forcing the pilot to divert and make an emergency landing at the Orlando-Sanford global Airport. The passengers disembarked without incident and were booked on different flights to Memphis.

Allegiant now offers nonstop service from Austin to Las Vegas, Nevada; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Orlando, Florida.

The airline will offer its new flights on Thursdays and Sundays. Passengers can essentially build their own fare with Allegiant, which charges fees for everything from carry-on luggage and early seat selection to whether travelers pay with a debit or credit card. Some 18.4 percent of the more than 300,000 passengers at CVG in June caught flights on low-priced airlines, according to airport data.

So far this year, the airport has welcomed two new airlines, OneJet and Allegiant, and seven new routes. Frontier plans to resume the service in March or April, CVG officials said.
