Man U’s Jesse Lingard scores against Chelsea, does the Dab

Apart from the late equaliser, Louis van Gaal’s side produced a display full of positives after recent criticism about the team’s style and reports linking former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho with the United job.

“Why do they have to deny?” Okay, okay, so you haven’t spoken to Ed Woodward or (United’s owners) the Glazers, so you are inventing this story.

He beat Borthwick-Jackson easily before firing a unsafe ball across goal that Oscar only just failed to reach. What is your name?

“Maybe you remember also the first years of Fergie?”

“Of course we know he is skilful, technically he is very good and he is ambitious. But with assistance from us – which is what we have to improve still”. But I’m happy with the performance.

“It was not a boring match. So I also hope to get the support of the media this week”.

Hiddink – as urbane and polite as his Dutch counterpart Van Gaal is defensive and argumentative – suggested the chances of compromise over the terms for the player’s retention have not yet been exhausted.

Manchester United appeared to be heading for their first win against Chelsea since 2012 when Jesse Lingard struck from inside the area, however Diego Costa salvaged a point for the Blues.

Following Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United, Terry stated there are no ongoing discussions between himself and Chelsea.

For United, a team that’s looking to get back into the Champions League after being eliminated in the group stage, they’re still trailing the fourth-place team by six points.

Goalscorer Lingard added: “I think we played the majority of the game well”.

And Sky Sports pundits Graeme Souness and Thierry Henry see no reason why Terry should not extend his stay at Chelsea into a 19th season.

“We played a superb game until the last quarter”. Then we had a free pitch for us, a lot of space, and then he whistles.

“I haven’t calculated mathematically if it’s possible, but we must start winning games”.

Just before the break Chelsea wanted a penalty when John Terry, after leaving his role at the back to run forward, had a shot that was blocked by Daley Blind. He’s put his hands up. I don’t think the guys they’re trying to buy are going to have the same influence he’s having at the moment.

Chelsea’s defence of the league has been desperate, while United have in past months come in for heavy criticism for their style of play and poor results.
