Pochettino’s ruthlessness has paid off, with Spurs now second in the Premier League table after 25 matches, five points shy of leaders Leicester City, and boasting the best defensive record and goal difference in the division.

[Mauricio] Pochettino has stated that the players themselves have started to believe they can win the league, “You can see in their eyes, the feeling, the energy, that they believe”, and why not?

More importantly, Mauricio Pochettino, who must now be considered one of the best coaches in world football, has turned Tottenham from a team so heavily dependent on one man into a team with multiple dimensions. Anything can still happen, and all we can do is keep winning our games.

While every Spurs fan wants a day out at Wembley and a beano overseas, the simple fact is Pochettino must play second-stringers in the February cup games and go all out for the title. But if not, I think we have created a very good basis to achieve next season.

While Arsenal and City are regularly hovering around the higher echelons of the Premier League, this is Tottenham’s first sustained spell in the top four since Harry Redknapp’s time in charge, and Lloris had cautioned about expecting too much from the current crop.

Spurs are now five points adrift of pacesetters Leicester but could cut the Foxes’ lead to two points if they beat Manchester City this weekend.

They are leaner with each passing week, faster and more confident.

This insane Premier League season now sees Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur fighting it out for the title.

On the win over Watford, winger Lamela told the club’s official website that “the team played really well”.

“They are a young side with a lot of talent, but they might lack a player who has “been there, done that”, the sort of player who will keep everyone calm, focused and believing that anything is possible”.

They won seven out of their last nine matches then and, for me, it all coincided with Robert Huth arriving at the club.

“We need to have some checks and we need to look again but all seems to be normal and we hope he will be available for Saturday”.

“We have some tough away games coming up, but we don’t fear anyone. But there is still a long way to go”.

Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores made a double change at half-time, introducing Valon Behrami and Troy Deeney and switching to his usual 4-3-1-2 formation.
