White Sox sign starting pitcher Mat Latos
According to multiple reports, the White Sox have inked starter Mat Latos to a contract while the Mariners have announced the signing of reliever Joel Peralta. Overall, pitching for the Marlins, Dodgers, and Angels, Latos posted a 4.95 ERA over 24 appearances (21 starts) totaling 116.1 innings. Latos is a career 64-55 pitcher over seven seasons in the majors, but his ERA is what really impresses many folks around baseball with it being just 3.51. The team has reportedly agreed to terms with starting pitcher Mat Latos.

Latos, 28, produced 16 WAR from 2010-13 when he averaged 32 starts per season. In December 2014, he was traded by the Reds to the Marlins.
Latos adds another arm to the competition for the last two spots in Chicago’s rotation. Latos didn’t even come close to approving.
The early feedback on the White Sox’s signing of right-hander Mat Latos has been positive from talent evaluators around the league.
ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick first reported the deal between Chicago and Latos and Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago added the contract was worth $3 million. There he went 0-3 with a 6.66 ERA in six games (five starts) before he was released in September and picked up by the Angels.
Latos was once one of the very promising young pitchers after developing with the San Diego Padres and moved in a blockbuster trade to the Reds.

The White Sox have stayed mostly the under the radar this offseason, but picking up Todd Frazier, Brett Lawrie and Alex Avila will give them a different look in 2016. Latos was projected to cash in on a monster free agent deal a few years ago but has now settled for just $3M with the White Sox, which should be considered a win for the organization. Before an injury filled 2014, Latos had a run of four straight seasons of 3.1 or higher fWAR including a 4.8 fWAR season in 2013.
