North Korea’s successful launch of a long-range rocket Saturday, in conjunction with other recent provocations, has brought the nuclear question to the top of the South Korean political agenda, and both conservative and liberal elements seem to be warming to the idea.

Feb 9, 2016- A satellite sent into space by North Korea is in orbit but it is not yet clear whether it is working, South Korea’s defence ministry has said.

“We are beginning the consultations now and in the current days with the South Koreans, and we expect that this will move in an expeditious fashion”, he added.

The DPRK is banned under UN Security Council resolutions from testing a rocket by use of ballistic missile technology and from conducting a nuclear test.

The U.N. Security Council on Sunday strongly condemned North Korea’s rocket launch and promised to take action, while Washington vowed to ensure the 15-nation body imposed “serious consequences” on Pyongyang as soon as possible.

North Korea launched a long-range rocket that it said carried communication satellite Kwangmyongsong-4, named after late leader Kim Jong Il, on Sunday morning.

“It’s provocative. It has repeatedly violated United Nations resolutions, tested and produced nuclear weapons and now they are trying to flawless their missile launch system”, he said.

THAAD is the U.S.-made Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system created to intercept and destroy short, medium and intermediate ballistic missiles in flight.

“It is widely believed by military experts that once THAAD is installed, Chinese missiles will be included as its target of surveillance, which will jeopardize Chinese national security”, it said.

But it is barred under UN Security Council resolutions from using ballistic missile technology.

“With respect to North Korea and what we should do now, one of the first things we should do is expand our missile defense capacity”.

It looks like we shouldn’t have bothered panicking about that satellite launched into space by North Korea.

Cook stressed the negotiations underscored the “ironclad” commitment of the USA to defend South Korea and would be “focused solely” on North Korea.
