New Hampshire primary latest: Early exit polls
Both outcomes would have been almost unthinkable not long ago. Sanders can, and would, fight on-but it would be hard to see him as a legitimate threat to Clinton.

The distinctions in what motived Sanders and Clinton voters were sharp. “You showed them tonight”.
Soon it became the battle of the placards as Mrs Clinton’s supporters got wind of the visit and turned up sporting large signs, strategically placing themselves amongst the Mr Sanders’ supporters. Ted Cruz in last week’s Iowa caucuses, the first nominating contest.
Trump labelled his Republican rival Cruz a “pussy” on Monday during a rally ahead of the New Hampshire primary.
“A lot of us feel that way and it seems like in this day and age, we can’t say these things with the PC police all around”. Several candidates needed a strong finish to ensure the survival of their campaigns.
John Kasich finished a distant but important second among Republicans, keeping the other candidates from breaking out of the pack. “Time to trade our snow boots for flip flops”. But the campaign staffers themselves will likely look at them for another reason: They’ll be a style guide for the next primaries in South Carolina, Nevada and beyond.
A log jam of Republican candidates were in a dead heat for second place, networks said.
Google tweeted before the last polls closed that Kasich was the top-searched GOP candidate in New Hampshire on Tuesday.
Republican voters were more negative about their politicians than Democrats, with about half of GOP voters saying they felt betrayed by party officials.
Rubio’s bump from a solid third in Iowa dissipated before the first New Hampshire vote was cast after a struggling debate effort.
That said, on paper, the Clinton-Sanders race – in New Hampshire and nationally – should have been a massive mismatch. He has appealed to liberal Democrats who believe Obama hasn’t done enough to address the nation’s disparity in wealth. The win was expected – Sanders led Clinton by more than 20 points in polls leading up to the primary – but it also showed that Sanders won’t fade easily as some predicted.
Republicans have criticized Clinton’s use of personal email, arguing that she may have put national security and government secrets at risk.
Mr. Sanders, a Vermont senator and self-described socialist who railed against income inequality, has scored a large win over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, taking 56 per cent of the early votes cast in the Democratic primary to 42 per cent for Ms. Clinton.
The Clinton campaign said the support of black and Hispanic voters would be key to victory.
“It will be very hard, if not impossible, for a Democrat to win the nomination without strong levels of support among African American and Hispanic voters”, campaign manager Robby Mook wrote in a memo titled “March Matters”.
Given Clinton’s lead in the super-delegate race, Sanders will likely need every delegate he can if he’s going to claim the nomination this summer.
At about midday, the path outside started to fill up with Bernie Sanders supporters as word spread he was about to pay a flying visit.
For Trump, New Hampshire was his state to lose. After his second-place finish in Iowa, he accepted some of the more traditional trappings of presidential campaigns, including smaller town hall meetings with voters. The results transform Mr. Trump, a divisive figure whose positions and style have attracted some voters while repelling others, into the leader of the race for the Republican nomination.

Kasich does best with voters looking for a candidate with political experience – along with moderates, better educated voters and those who made their vote decision in the past few days.
