In February, the peace deal reached in Minsk with mediation from France and Germany called for the withdrawal of heavy arms of more than 100mm caliber from the front line.

Kyiv forces have not received orders to pull their own guns back, in response to the alleged rebel move, a Ukrainian army spokesman said on Sunday.

The peace accord calls on Kiev to see through a raft of measures to grant a special status to the rebel-controlled areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. On Sundya, rebels said that at least one person was killed and several injured as Ukrainian forces shelled a hospital and several residential blocks in central Donetsk.

The latest unilateral step from eastern Ukrainian anti-Kiev troops comes despite previous violations by Kiev authorities of agreements by both sides to withdraw heavy weapons. “Do you believe we can shell ourselves?” he added.
