Your iPhone Becomes Virtually Useless if Apple Detects Third-Party Repairs
There had been reports of devices having been repaired months earlier that had been working fine, before the message popped on the display, following which the device was disabled, after the phone was connected to a computer to perform a software update.

‘Error 53’ is what you will get if your iPhone’s home button was repaired by unauthorised personnel.
“We take customer security very seriously and Error 53 is the result of security checks created to protect our customers”, Apple said in an official statement sent to ZDNet.
What really happens here is that the iOS 9 update will check whether your Touch ID sensor matches with other components of the iPhone or iPad as it was made by the company. The company further asserted that the Touch ID security measure is “necessary to protect your device and prevent a fraudulent Touch ID sensor from being used”. When the security check can’t verify that the original fingerprint sensor is installed, it disables Touch ID, Apple stated.
But, once Error 53 comes up, contacting Apple Support may not be of much help. “When iOS finds an unidentified or unexpected Touch ID module, the check fails”.
For some reason, Apple’s latest software update seems to infuriate thousands of their users who reportedly claimed being barred access to their phone after getting their iPhones fixed by non-Apple technicians.
IPhone owners could be left with completely broken phones by a mysterious error that renders the handsets unusable. The Touch ID, if replaced, will need to be re-paired and re-validated with the motherboard and this can only be done by Apple’s authorised service centres. When faced with the error, Apple apparently can’t undo the issue, and instead instructs customers to buy a new device.

Your iPhone is bricked and you will not be able to do anything with it. If you are facing such an issue, we suggest that you contact Apple Support as soon as possible. Some users haven’t had issues after damaging their phone and have continued to use it, and the same is true for those who sent their devices for fix to a non-Apple technician. But since all these iPhones have already been repaired in non-Apple service centers, hence no more warranty, Apple can do only little about them.
