“I guess so. It’s part of it. You’ve got to be able to go out there and do your job and put yourself and your team in a position to be successful”, Price said Tuesday afternoon, before the Tigers clubhouse closed for a team meeting.

In an interview with USA Today, general manager Dave Dombrowski sounded as though he’s prepared to wave the white flag on the Tigers’ season if their postseason outlook doesn’t improve within 10 days.

“At this point our focus is trying to win right now“. We could be in for a painful winter as the front office tries to move contracts or shuffle them to create more optimism for the team.

“We’re at a point where we have to do what’s best in our heart for the franchise.”

“.

The best-case scenario for Dombrowski would be the Tigers either catching fire or going in the tank over these next handful of games.

A free agent at the end of the season, Price has always said he’d be amenable to staying with the Tigers on a long-term deal, but has no knowledge of ongoing talks, at any point.

Detroit already has $110 million committed in salary for 2016 for Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, Anibal Sanchez, Ian Kinsler and Victor Martinez.

While the Cleveland Indians still have trouble with the Detroit Tigers, the rest of the American League has the Motor City Kitties figured out.

When asked to address rumors about the possibility of being dealt later this month, Price said he wasn’t surprised about being mentioned as a potential trade candidate, but reiterated his preference his remain in Detroit.

Cespedes, 29, was acquired in an offseason trade with the Boston Red Sox. Illitch, who is 86 years old, has been clear in the past of his desire for the team to win a world series. I can’t imagine he’s up for a rebuild.

Ultimately, Dombrowski has to assess the team properly.

As you know, the Tigers were swept in the ALDS at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles due to a broken down bullpen and an offense that ran out of gas.

Additionally, no one’s exactly running away with the second wild-card and its reasonable to believe the Tigers can still make the playoffs. According to Baseball America, Los Angeles owns four of the game’s top 20 prospects, including lefty pitcher Julio Arias and infielder Corey Seager.

“I plan on the Tigers winning today and reeling off a couple wins, and all of this stuff can kind of quiet down a little bit”, Price said. They’re playing. 500 baseball because that’s the true talent level on the team.

So what should the Tigers do?

“Still no one sees the Tigers selling, even at only.500”.

Rachel (@SOUVLAKI): “Need to trade”. Farm system is basically barren right now. Its not over yet. As a matter of fact, Kyle Lobstein, who is now sidelined with a shoulder injury, was quite arguably the team’s most consistent No. 5 starter before landing on the DL.
