Pakistan clinches 3 gold, 5 silver medals in SAF Games
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) secretary Shahbaz Ahmed Senior is confident that Pakistan Whites will clinch a gold medal in the ongoing 12th South Asian Games (SAG) in India.

On Tuesday, 9 February, the women’s and men’s volleyball teams clinched the gold medals in their sport in quick succession in Guwahati.
Having claimed men, women and mixed pair team gold in the morning session, the recurve archers bagged two gold and as many silver in the all-Indian final in the afternoon to sign off in style with a maximum possible of 10 gold and four silver in total.
At the 12 South Asian Games held in Guwahati and Shillong, India are comfortably on top with 84 gold, 39 silver medals and 10 bronze across all disciplines. In 400m freestyle for men, the silver was notched by Sajan Prakash of India and bronze by Kyle Abeysingh of Sri Lanka.
After sweeping the Compound event with five gold and two silver, the results were also similar in the recurve competitions. One gold were won each by Sri Lanka (Anton Sudesh Peiris in 62kg men) and Bangladesh (Mabia Akter in 63kg women). Teams from Bangladesh and Bhutan won silver and bronze in the mixed recurve category. Mohammad Butt won one gold for Pakistan in 105+ kg for men. While the Indians secured 51,53,52 as the Sri Lankan eves could only manage 34, 41, 39.

India are on top of the medals’ tally with a count of 72, which includes 48 gold, 18 silver and six bronze medals. Apurvi, who just got back from Europe after shooting world record equaling scores in competitions there, also bagged a double when she teamed up with Pooja Ghatkar and Elizabeth Susan Koshy to win the Team Gold in the event. In women’s finals, India bet Sri Lanka in three straight sets of 25-14, 25-21, 25-14 to secure the gold. The bronze was won by Pakistan in a three straight victory over Maldives.
