Christie Returning to NJ to ‘Reassess’ Campaign

Trump said he hopes Rubio, who struggled to a fifth place finish in the New Hampshire primary, can turn his campaign around.

Christie’s New Hampshire campaign Chairman Wayne MacDonald, who is not involved in today’s deliberations but is familiar with the campaign’s strategy, said that qualifying for the next debate is likely a major factor in the deliberations. While Clinton was able to edge out a victory by a narrow margin, Sanders is projected to easily take New Hampshire.

Christie spent more time in New Hampshire than any other candidate, peaking in December when he came in second in the race in the WMBR poll.

NEW HAMPSHIRE HANGOVER? Plenty of Republicans kvetched after Iowa. Marco Rubio is blaming himself for his disappointing finish, acknowledging he “did not do well” in Saturday night’s debate. By February 8, he had made 190 stops in New Hampshire, more than any other candidate, according to NECN’s candidate tracker. Most Republican candidates were bound Wednesday for SC, which holds its GOP primary February 20, and Democrats to Nevada ahead of that state’s Democratic caucus the same day. South Carolina Republicans pride themselves on offering candidates the first opportunity to compete for a large electorate with sizable chunks of all GOP factions: evangelical Christians, tea partiers, business-minded Republicans and national security hawks. Is Kasich in for a thrashing?

“There’s no reason to go to sit in a hotel in SC to do that”, he said, adding that he and his family actually needed a “fresh set of clothes”.

AD NAUSEAM: The presidential hopefuls and their supporters already are planning to spend $35 million in SC and $7 million in Nevada on TV and radio commercials, amounts that will rise significantly as voting approaches. Trump also burst back onto TV there beginning Tuesday.

Ben Carson will not be attending his New Hampshire election party tonight, will fly to SC instead, campaign says. Among them: The Congressional Black Caucus political action committee promised to make its endorsement after New Hampshire.
