The suspects in the shooting were allegedly at Muskegon Heights High School to settle a score from a previous fight in Grand Rapids.

Police were aware of a group of four people planning to cause trouble at Tuesday evening’s basketball game between Muskegon Heights and Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills, Joseph Thomas Jr., the Muskegon Heights interim police chief after the shooting.
Four people were shot outside a MI high school Tuesday night, police said.
According to Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System Superintendent Alena-Zachery-Ross, the district will not hold class today.
One of the two shooting incidents, which happened in close proximity to one another, includes a deputy-involved shooting, which is now under investigation by the Michigan State Police.
“We did everything we could to prevent this from happening”, Thomas said, noting that state and local police along with county sheriff’s deputies had identified the suspects and were positioned to stop the individuals from entering the school or staying in the parking lot.
“This could have been a very tragic situation”.
Not much is known about the other shooting, other than the fact that it involved another suspect being shot by a sheriff’s deputy. Initially, authorities reported 3 people had been hurt in the incidents, later finding a fourth person who’d been injured while canvassing the surrounding area.
A nearby sheriff’s deputy responded and asked a man with a gun to drop his weapon, police said.
Police did not release the names of those involved.
