Microsoft acquires an app called Groove to boost its service called Groove

A few months back, Microsoft had rebranded its Xbox Music service to Groove, a name which was eerily similar to an already available music app for iOS by a startup called Zikera. But while Groove is a reasonable name – “it describes what people feel and do with music” the company said – it was one shared by another music service, developed by Canadian startup Zikera.

We envisioned a music player so intelligent that learns our tastes and habits in order to play the right music at the right time. However, details concerning terms of the deal, such as price and dates, have not been disclosed. At that time, Microsoft had said that it had nothing to do with Zikera. It is the smaller Groove that takes the announcement honours, despite the fact that Microsoft Groove is no iTunes and that the firm does not appear to be pushing its new property. However, he was not able to share anything more about the purchase, including how much Microsoft paid. At that time, the company that was behind the development of the Groove Smart Music Player did not offer any comments on how Microsoft was using the name for its own services.

And it turned out to be quite successful as the app is reportedly downloaded by 1.5 million users from the Apple play store. The Groove Music app was previously available as iOS app for devices made by Apple Inc.
