Broncos’ Upset Helps CBS Set Second-Highest Super Bowl Rating
In all, this year’s Super Bowl peaked with an average of 115.5 million viewers from about 8:30 p.m.to 9:00 p.m. ET, making it the third most-watched program in television history, CBS boasted. Last year’s game scored a 49.7 rating, which equaled 114.4 million viewers – an all-time record.

The Nielsen company said Monday the event was live-streamed by just under 4 million additional people, setting records in the digital space.
The game, which saw the Denver Broncos win a defensive battle over the Carolina Panthers 24-10, averaged a 49.0 rating, meaning that 49 percent of American homes with TV sets had the game turned on.
Besides the final score and cost of a 30-second commercial, one of the most important numbers from any Super Bowl are the final television ratings.
The game is also airing on ESPN on Foxtel, and Foxtel subscribers can watch it on mobile devices using Foxtel Go. While there were some sporadic glitches, most people were able to stream the game without any problems. Last year’s matchup between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks still holds the record on the platform.
The carrier, which the nation’s biggest by number of subscribers, has an exclusive pact with the National Football League to stream games to smartphones.
Facebook-owned Instagram did well, too, saying that 38 million people had 155 million interactions on its service related to Super Bowl 50.
Judging from the comments made by readers to Best Classic Bands’ Facebook page, classic rock fans were not particularly happy with the game’s halftime show choice of performers or their actual performances.
