Burger King’s next conquest: Hot dog king
The fast-food chain will make the taste of a summer barbecue available year-round by adding two hot dogs to its permanent menu, it said in a press release today.

In what may be one of the most unexpected, drunk-eating changing announcements from a fast food brand since McDonald’s bait-and-switch plans for all-day breakfast, Burger King has announced that they’re planning to introduce hot dogs to their menu.
They come in two varieties: Classic ($1.99), with ketchup, mustard, chopped onions, and relish (although any item can be left off; never forget: “Have It Your Way”), or Chili Cheese ($2.29). “Guests told us to keep it basic”.
Burger King is going back to its fast-food roots with the new menu item after its salads and healthier offerings struggled to tempt diners.
The classic hot dog rounds out to about 310 calories, while the chili-cheese dog comes to about 330 calories, the Associated Press reported. Orders that included a hot dog resulted in larger average checks than orders without the new dish.
Burger King today announced a surprise addition to its menu. Alex Macedo, Burger King’s North American President, says the testing revealed Americans want a higher quality wiener at a lower price point. And other NPD data show the popularity of hot dogs has faltered recently.
The burger chain, a unit of Restaurant Brands International Inc, had Twitter sizzling after its announcement, on Wednesday but at least some did not relish the idea.
Before the launch, Burger King tested the hot dogs in select markets in five US cities past year, which included a “Rodeo” option with onion rings, cheese, and BBQ sauce, as well as the “A1 Ultimate”, topped with bacon, cheese, and A1 Sauce – neither of which made the cut. “Some said they’d love it if we had hot dogs”.

Macedo said hot dogs would build on Burger King’s momentum given their growing popularity, including at trendy eateries.
