Rand Paul puts tax code in woodchipper

Kentucky Senator and GOP presidential candidate Rand Paul on Tuesday released a video of himself eviscerating a copy of the USA tax code with a chainsaw, and a few hours later, he reportedly paid a delinquent property tax bill in Florida.

“I’m trying to kill the tax code”, says Paul in a video filmed at his campaign headquarters.

The shirt was a gift he received when Paul opened the Republican National Committee office in Detroit, a campaign spokesman said.

As a guitar version of the “Star Spangled Banner” plays, Paul feeds printed pages of the tax code into a wood chipper, slashes the pages with a chainsaw and lights the paper on fire.

It’s an attempt to gin up some excitement for Paul’s proposal for a flat tax.

Paul believes that applying the 14.5 percent tax to all companies, down from current tax rates of about 40 percent for small businesses and 35 percent for corporations, will jump-start the nation’s economy and aid in job creation. According to Senate financial-disclosure forms, Paul and his brother-in-law David Ashby bought the condo together in 2007.

While in Michigan on July 10 and 11, Paul visited Highland Park, Shelby Township and Holland, among other sites.
