Clinton hits the ground early as New Hampshire voting begins

Miller contends that the former congressman “doesn’t have a constituency past New Hampshire”.

CNN reports that trailing behind Trump, Florida Sen. Christie and Bush both piled on Rubio, claiming he hadn’t been tested the way that governors have.

Sanders, a self-described Democratic socialist, tried to prevent Clinton from cutting into his lead in New Hampshire.

“I’m humbly asking for your support on Tuesday”, he concluded, “and I will not let you down”. From leading Sanders by 50 percent just a year ago, Clinton’s lead has now shrunk to a virtual tie as revealed by two major national polls.

The state is friendly territory for the Vermont senator and a must-win if he’s to have a chance of staying competitive with Clinton as the race moves to more diverse states that are seen as more hospitable to the former secretary of state. And Sanders and Clinton were evenly divided among women, a major setback for a candidate who aims to become the nation’s first female president.

Cruz denied that waterboarding – a practice used under the George W. Bush administration during the war on terror – was torture, saying: “Under the definition of torture, no it is not”.

The second-place finisher is also worth watching. When an audience member shouted out an insult directed at Mr Cruz – a vulgar term for “coward” – Mr Trump repeated the term and jokingly reprimanded the woman.

In Nevada, Rubio’s super PAC, Conservative Solutions PAC, has reserved more time than any other group ahead of the caucuses there later this month, with $461,000 of ad time booked.

A lot of Republicans will head to the polls in New Hampshire on Tuesday, motivated to vote against Donald Trump. He placed third, surprisingly close to Trump, making him the hope of establishment Republicans looking to back a candidate more presentable than Trump or Cruz.

Christie, fresh from a vigorous debate performance in which he battered Rubio, a first-term senator, as unprepared for the presidency, told a town hall crowd Sunday in Hampton, New Hampshire, that his exchanges with Rubio showed “who’s ready. I am”.

“You have not been involved in a consequential decision where you had to be held accountable”, Christie told Rubio.

Despite his good debate, Christie was still in sixth place in the 538.com polling average heading into Tuesday. In New Hampshire, it took him until Monday to participate in voter question-and-answer sessions in intimate settings, the kinds of events that are a staple here.

Kierstead said that he has been married for a “long time” and accused Rubio of trying “to say we don’t matter”.

New Hampshire is a big libertarian state, which is something Cruz knows well. “They’re knocking on tens of thousands of doors”.

Brian Sanderoff, the Journal’s pollster and a longtime observer of presidential politics, said the debate Saturday night in New Hampshire appears to have “slowed Rubio’s momentum” and that the GOP contest is tilting heavily in favor of Trump in New Hampshire.

Behind Clinton’s upbeat demeanor, however, are growing concerns within her campaign about her standing with young people, who are flocking to Sanders.
