At one point during Newton’s almost seven-minute interview, his teammates walked behind the media gathered three-deep around his locker and starting saying, “We love you, Cam, ” and even sang him a song lightning the mood. I’m not happy about what happened.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said while he prefers his fifth-year quarterback would have handled the situation a little better, he understands where he is coming from and what he felt at the time. “It’s not a popularity contest”. I never once said I was ideal, I never proclaimed I was flawless, but at the end of the day, people pick and they do things of that sort and the truth of the matter is, who are you to say your way is right? “I think again we know who he is and he does take it hard”. “Where we get a chance to sit down and talk to him, that’s up to Peyton, where he is in that process, what he thinks he can do, how he thinks he can play… what he wants to do from here on out”. “I can tell you that”, Newton said. “So why should we be all smiles when the game is over?” He added, “We will be back, and I mean that”. Rivera said there’s a lot of guys who have reacted the same way in post game losses. “I can’t expect anybody to be laughing and joking and ecstatic about losing a football game”.
