Twitter to Change Homepage to Customize Tweet Displays to Individuals

Like Facebook, Twitter is shifting to a sorting system that relies on algorithms to track which tweets seem to matter most to individual users. Twitter is a company that relies heavily on growth in its user base; its total in Q2 was flat from last quarter at 320 million registered users and up 9 percent from 288 million a year ago.

The new feature is basically an expansion of the “while you were away” feature. “Here’s how it works”.

Twitter’s real-time stream will then be displayed underneath in the same reverse-chronological order, allowing users to also keep track of real-time discussions on Twitter. This new feature will showcase the tweets based on their popularity and whether the user is in regular interaction with the person tweeting them.

On Twitter, the hashtag #RIPTwitter was trending Wednesday, showcasing a lack of optimism from many users about the service’s future.

The company will be taking in feedback from users in the coming weeks, which will be the basis for whether it will become a default feature. Turning off the feature is universal so you won’t need to worry about disabling it manually across all your devices.

Analysts say back in October, Dorsey showed moment aiming to make it easier for users to follow major events and breaking news, unfortunately it has failed to maintain gain.

Twitter, however, is fairly aware of the problems and has launched a number of new products to address the issue.
