When the Pope visits Mexico February 12-17, he is not expected to tussle with Trump or directly criticize USA immigration policy.

Castro is an ally of Russian Federation who received Francis in Cuba just five months ago. The Mass is to be held “90 yards from the border”, reported Market Watch. At the same time Mexico is financially vibrant, with the second largest economy in Latin America, and has a booming tourist industry.

The pope’s first stop this time again is Havana, where he’s to meet with Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill in the aims of easing a historic rift in Christianity. The Vatican sees the meeting as a historic step in the path toward healing the 1,000-year schism that split Christianity.

“It would have meant the Pope going to Georgia, an Orthodox country, while the local Church’s Patriarch was at the Synod assembly in Crete”, the website commented.

Cardinal Kurt Koch, the head of the Vatican office that deals with Orthodox relations, said the Ukrainian church will certainly come up in the two-hour private talks between Francis and Kirill.

The dispute led to centuries of mistrust.

“He’s more up-front the way he says stuff”.

The “Mexicanization” comment understandably irked Mexico, and the Vatican promptly apologized. The pope will end his six-day trip in Ciudad Juarez by holding a mass at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The guides, as well as the pope’s address that morning, focused on the importance of self-reflection as someone prepares to go to the confession booth.

Although the Orthodox churches retain great autonomy in their respective regions, with their spiritual home in “Constantinople” – modern-day Istanbul – half of all Orthodox are Russian Orthodox, making any undertaking by them significant.

Mexico will get something for its trouble (and expense). After Ruiz retired in 1999, the Vatican suspended the ordination of deacons on the grounds that it was dissuading men from entering the priesthood.

But he appears to have chosen to visit Mexico because its troubled backdrop touches on many of his priority social concerns: immigration, arms dealing, the drugs trade and its associated violence, prostitution, corruption, the rights of indigenous people and the environment.

But in an indication that Ruiz remains a controversial figure, the Vatican won’t confirm whether Francis will pray at Ruiz’s tomb in the cathedral of San Cristobal de las Casas.

According to the church, the government will not be able to gloss over Mexico’s ills for Francis’ trip.

Pope Francis suggested that a penitent’s coming to the confessional is a telling gesture.

Francis has demanded that countries welcome migrants and refugees fleeing poverty and oppression, calling for bold new solutions and denouncing the “globalization of indifference” that the world shows migrants.

The Republican US presidential hopeful said the pontiff is “very political” and “doesn’t understand the problems [America] has”.

“I don’t think we can expect a meeting with victims of child abuse”, he said, adding: “I remember the sea of people when John Paul II visited… everyone loves the Pope”.
