Obama confronts his political failure on campaign anniversary

President Barack Obama’s message about overcoming the bitter and seemingly intractable nature of modern politics was particularly applicable in IL, local legislators agreed on Wednesday. Rauner, in his own way, is advocating for “hope and change” (Obama’s former mantra), while Madigan and Cullerton are trying hard to protect the political and governmental status quo.

“I thought I’d made some compelling points, with irrefutable logic”, he said.

President Barack Obama has been talking for some time about returning to Springfield on the anniversary of his official kickoff for the presidency at the Old State Capitol, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Monday.

The president returned to the motorcade and was taken to the Statehouse, where he will address the General Assembly this afternoon.

“I recognize there is a certain presumptuousness – a certain audacity – to this announcement”.

In the post, Obama added that he chose to announce his candidacy in Springfield not just because of the eight years he served there as an IL state senator, but because of the people he met throughout the state.

“He was very relaxed and I thought he gave a great speech in terms of the issues that are dividing our country as well as the legislature here in Illinois”, Pritchard said.

President Barak Obama has begun addressing IL lawmakers in Springfield.

“I was honored that President Obama affirmed my decision to find a compromise to bring people together”, Dunkin told Ward Room.

Back in Washington, Republicans – who now control Congress – questioned why Obama had himself not acted in a more bipartisan manner and why he waited until the a year ago of his presidency to give the speech.

Obama chose a rare presidential address to a state legislature to expand on a central theme of his State of the Union address last month: Building a “better politics”.

Before his address, Obama stopped by the Feed Store restaurant to pick up some barley soup and take selfies with customers. Illinois Democrats strongly oppose measures that would cut back workers’ rights.

However, his speech comes during a time when his home state is in disarray and entering the eighth month without a budget. “If they make up facts and ignore science, then they just think it’s their opinion that matters”, he said.

“My hope is, is that I help create a tone for the next President”.

Obama launched his speech with memories of his time in Springfield where he said he arrived as a lawmaker “passionate, idealistic (and) ready to make a difference”, but one who “needed a little dose of reality”.

Obama told the crowd that he got barley soup. “I can not and should not be condemned for moving the needle forward and helping some of our most vulnerable citizens”, Dunkin said.
