PlayStation 4 Leads January 2016 Hardware Sales

In his statement at the Mad Catz earnings call, Chief Financial Officer David McKeon said that the installed base of the new console that was around 60 million represented just a little more than a third of the projected install base of more than 150 million units by the end of 2018. One thing that they show was that PlayStation 4 dominates the sales of their games. That’s a big margin – but it isn’t as large as the worldwide hardware gap. Since their concurrent releases in November 2013, there have been 36,885,091 units of the PS4 and 19,769,314 units of the Xbox One sold.

Still, Ubisoft’s revenue split suggests the Xbox One may be more attractive to publishers than its raw hardware sales numbers indicate. The newer consoles now have over 96 percent market share which is up from the 84 percent that it was in January 2015.
