Police Commissioner William Evans said when police responded to the Devon Street shooting at about 10:25 a.m., they encountered two men at a vehicle.

Another victim with a gunshot wound was found in a residence nearby. One of the suspects was fleeing the house and exchanged gunfire with police, said the source.

One of them men as armed.

“Nobody likes to take a life, but if you’re gonna point a gun at one of our officers in the way he did, obviously we’re gonna protect ourselves and we’re gonna neutralize the threat”, Evans said.

An officer ordered the man to drop his gun three times before firing, Evans said. No officers have been injured. Evans said several officers went to local hospitals to be checked out due to the stress of the situation.

Emergency crews are responding to a police-involved shooting in Dorchester. Police believe the two men had been there before the shootout with police.
